Dr William Peveler
Will studied at the University of Oxford and UCL, before undertaking postdoctoral fellowships at UCL and UBC, Canada. He joined the University of Glasgow as a Lord Kelvin Adam Smith Fellow in 2018 and founded the Bio-Nano-Sensing group in 2019, becoming a Lecturer in 2022, and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow and Senior Lecturer in 2024. Outside the lab he enjoys playing and listening to music, cooking and wine, long walks with his daughter and trail running with his Labrador.
PostDocs & Fellows

Dr Liam Wilson
Liam studied chemistry at the University of St Andrews (Masters) and the University of Strathclyde (PhD), where his research focussed on the development of small molecule pH sensors for biological Raman imaging. In the Peveler group, he is currently working on the development of fluorescent arrays for the detection of liver fibrosis. Outside of the lab, Liam spends his time rock climbing, hiking, cycling and cooking.

Dr Celeste Felion
Celeste completed her PhD at the University of Glasgow, where her research focussed on the development of spectroscopic assays for monitoring estrogen biodegradation in the context of engineering water treatment. In the Peveler group, she is currently working on an IAA-funded project to explore the use of metal nanomaterials to measure the impact of wood-aging on foodstuffs. In her spare time, Celeste enjoys cycling, hiking and supporting the UT Longhorns
PhDs & Masters

Daniel Osborne
Daniel graduated with an MSci in Chemistry with Industrial placement from the University of Glasgow in 2022. His work in industry, undertaken at Cambrex Edinburgh, involved a range of solid form screening projects on novel active pharmaceutical ingredients. Daniel’s current project involves developing nano-surface chemistry and optical sensors.

Isla Slater
Isla graduated with an MChem in Chemistry with Drug Discovery from the University of Strathclyde in 2022. During this master’s study she worked on the nanoencapsulation of antibiotics for the treatment of skin infections using polymers. Isla also undertook a placement in the Chemistry Clinic at Strathclyde, assisting small and medium sized businesses in multiple projects. Now, Isla is working on a sensing systems based on quantum dots.

Nitin Kumar
Nitin received a Master’s in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Indore in 2020, where his research focused on hydrogel synthesis for bio-catalysis application and nanoparticle synthesis. He then joined the UNESCO-Regional Centre for Biotechnology as a project associate (2022-24), developing labelling technologies for imaging applications using fluorogenic bio-analogues. Currently Nitin is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie DN researcher, designing supramolecular biosensors for contaminants of emerging concern.

Katie Hillan
Katie graduated with an MSci in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Glasgow in 2022. During this master’s study she worked on the inverse design of functional chromophores for live cell bio-imaging. Katie also undertook a placement at GlaxoSmithKline in Weybridge, assisting in their consumer healthcare product development. Katie’s current project involves developing a liver fibrosis sensing system using TR-FRET.

Arnau Trinidad Torras
Arnau studied Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, followed by a Master’s in Applied Materials Chemistry at the University of Barcelona. He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s theses at ICN2, focusing on biomimetic nanoparticles and photochromic materials. He is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie DN researcher, developing nanomaterial-based sensors for detecting emerging contaminants in water.

Helena Fuglevand
Helena completed a BSc in Chemistry at the University of St Andrews in 2024. In her final year she worked with self-replicating supramolecular molecules in the Philp group. Helena then undertook a MSc by research in the Bio-Nano-Sensing group on developing sensing systems using calixarenes that she is now continuing as a PhD.
